South Carolina STEM Art Competition

Presented by the SC STEM Educator of the Year Winners
The 1st annual South Carolina STEM Art Competition asks SC students to create an original artwork or poster that displays your depiction of this year's theme “Where’s your STEM?”

Competition Details

Theme:
Artwork should display a depiction of this year's theme “Where’s your STEM?”

Eligibility:

All South Carolina students Kindergarten through 12th grades.

Grade Level Categories:
The top three finalists will be chosen from each region (see map below).

Judging:
Judging is based on originality, clarity of message, use of materials, and quality of work.

Criteria:
If using a non-digital media, posters should be no smaller than 8 ½ x 11 inches. Digital media should have a minimum resolution of 72 PPI. For submission purposes, the max file size is 20 MB.

Posters can be of any form of art you choose to express the topic. You can use pieces of fabric, or you can create drawings using markers, crayons, paints, photography, digital art or charcoal. We are looking for unique and creative works of art.

Only individual work will be accepted, and submissions are limited to one piece per person.

Frequently Asked Questions:

Can I include photos of celebrities or models in my poster? No, We cannot consider these posters for awards or post them on our website because we cannot guarantee the celebrity/model granted you and us permission for their likeness to be used.

Can I include photos of or references to name-brand products? No, we don't have permission to use trademarked graphics.

Can I cut out and include photos from print magazines? No, we don't have the right to reproduce these photos.

Can I use photos or graphics I found on the web? Yes, you can use FREE images from sites like Unsplash or Pixabay.


​Can I use images available through my computer software or in a clip art collection? Yes. Images available through your computer software, like Microsoft Word, or in a clip art collection that you own ARE acceptable.

What about photos of myself or my friends and family? Yes, ask permission first!

Do I have to create my poster/artwork on a computer? No. Handmade artwork is acceptable. It should be scanned or photographed and submitted digitally. We will accept pdf, jpeg, and png file types.

Can my poster include three-dimensional objects, like a piece of fabric, or a reflective surface, like a mirror? Yes.

Who is eligible for the contest?  All South Carolina students in grades K through 12.
