Hosted by Dr. Nicole Yemothy, this webinar will explore how to support the shifting SC Science standards while engaging students with interactive experiences in BrainPOP’s newest offering for Middle Schools - BrainPOP Science. BrainPOP Science helps facilitate inquiry based science that ensures students do, discuss, & analyze science; all while fostering evidence gathering as the core component of thinking like a scientist. Participants can request complimentary access to BrainPOP Science for the remainder of the 2021-2022 school year. Sessions are offered on March 22 from 5:00-5:40 PM and April 5 from 4:00-4:40 PM.

Females that are interested in STEM that are sophomores and juniors from local area high schools are invited to attend the conferences. Each day from 8:00 AM-2:00 PM, 100 participants will be mentored by Limestone's female faculty and students through a series of STEM-related training workshops.

Meet STEM children's book author, Erin Twamley who will share all about how she combines her love of STEM with writing books and doing research. Join Patriots Point Naval and Maritime Museum and the S.C. Sea Grant Consortium for a “brunch and learn” educator science café aboard the U.S.S. Yorktown and surrounding Shem Creek! This two-part, free event from 11:30 AM - 2:30 PM will showcase ways in which to incorporate English Language Arts (ELA) to address the new S.C. State Science Standards – all while enjoying brunch provided by Callie’s Hot Little Biscuits! Deadline to register is March 11.

For Educators: Webinar Series-Instilling an Innovation Mindset & Innovation Mindset Case Study: The Buzz on Pollination
During this webinar series of two sessions you will engage in a fun, interactive virtual workshop, hosted by Shawn Boger from The National Inventors Hall of Fame® and Tracey Elmore, the 2020 SC STEM Educator of the Year. You will be provided with specific and concrete ideas for making your classroom one where children are strong protagonists of their own learning. The National Inventors Hall of Fame® is rooted in the belief that inventing is a human disposition. This establishes a natural foundation on which you can create an environment where children can use their innate curiosity to answer big open ended questions. During Session 1 we will share the Camp Invention® Design Thinking Process™ and reinforce that using hands-on materials encourages play as a strategy for teaching and learning where children can make their thinking visible. During Session 2, 2020 SC STEM Teacher of the Year, Tracy Elmore from Lugoff-Elgin Middle School, will share how she took one activity from the National Inventors Hall of Fame® blog to the next level by creating a year-long experience for her 7th grade students. This in-depth presentation will provide resources and strategies to inspire your own lessons to create an engaging environment where students follow the Design Thinking Process to develop innovative solutions to real world problems. This session highlights how math teachers, librarians, art teachers and experts can empower students to solve problems in our world. You will not want to miss this inspiring session!

For All: Shaw Air & Space Expo
The 20th Fighter Wing is scheduled to host the Shaw Air & Space Expo, “Thunder Over the Midlands,” April 2-3, 2022 at Shaw Air Force Base, S.C. The expo, headlined by the Thunderbirds, the U.S. Air Force precision-flying demonstration team gives Shaw the opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of the Air Force through a variety of aerial demonstrations, displays, and static aircraft displays to those in attendance.

For All: iMAGINE Upstate STEAM Festival Fueled by Fluor:
Discover the excitement of STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Math) through drone races, robotics shows, explosive science experiments, 3D printing, arts and crafts, dance performances, and much more! For Educators: Starting a Robotics Team in Easy Steps
Have you ever wanted to start a robotics team at your school but wasn't sure how? This webinar, hosted by Chris Beyerle, a Gateway PLTW Teacher and VEX Robotics Coach, will give you the information and tools to get started coaching your own robotics team. Million Women Mentors South Carolina (MWM SC) is excited to host the annual STEM Symposium 2022: Empowering the Next Generation of STEM Leaders. MWM SC is the premier network of leaders from business, K-12 education and higher education, industry, military, and non-profit organizations who are committed to advancing women in STEM and building a diverse, robust, and sustainable STEM workforce.
This 2022 symposium will showcase and highlight:
- Mentoring Experiences and Opportunities
- Opportunities for collaboration between students, STEM professionals, and workforce networks
- Recognition of young women in STEM
- Virtual or in-person attendance options are available on April 8, 9 AM-12 PM
APRIL 8
For Students: 4-H Engineering Challenge
South Carolina 4-H Engineering Challenge is offered in the spring annually to youth, ages 9-18, across the state. Challenges include bridge building, robotics, rocketry, coding, and visual art. Some challenges require club or classroom work prior to the competition event. Other challenges require youth to create their designs onsite. In addition to challenges, the South Carolina 4-H Engineering Challenge hosts a STEAM Fair to further excite youth about opportunities in STEM careers and education.
APRIL 8
For Students and Educators: Joint Base Charleston Air Expo- Lowcountry Titans of Flight STEM Day
To help increase awareness of Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) career fields, Joint Base Charleston is hosting a STEM Day in conjunction with the 2022 Air Expo for local schools on April 8th from 9:30 AM to 2:30 PM. Students will have the opportunity to view and interact with different STEM-based activities and displays provided by the United States Air Force and local partners.
